How to Detect Midjourney Images

Ways to assess a suspected Midjourney image without relying on permanent visual fingerprints.

There is no dependable visual mark that identifies every image made with Midjourney. Output changes with model versions, prompts, settings, and later editing. A particular look can suggest a workflow, but it is not proof of the tool used.

Check the image and its source

Inspect details such as lettering, object connections, repeated patterns, and reflections. These clues can point to an image that needs more scrutiny, but the same artifacts can appear in edited photographs or low-quality copies. Polished detail does not rule out generation.

Look for the original post or project context. A creator may share a prompt, generation record, or original file. Keep in mind that a caption can be inaccurate or separated from the image when it is reposted.

Use a classifier carefully

The Motchilllz AI Analyzer can estimate whether an image resembles its AI class. It does not attribute an image to Midjourney. A score labeled “Likely AI-generated” means the classifier produced a strong signal; it does not identify a specific generator or confirm the history of that file.

EXIF metadata may list software, but image platforms and export settings can remove or replace metadata. A missing software name says nothing about Midjourney. A present name is also not a signed record.

For better context, compare the report with the original source and any provenance information. Read how AI detectors can be wrong before using a score in a consequential decision.
